The Middle-Aged Widower’s New Lover, Long Ago

He felt like a recent poem
By Anne Carson, that moment.
He assumed it was recent—

Short Talk on the Sensation
Of Aeroplane Takeoff—one
Sentence about love running,

Life with its arms up yelling
Let’s buy it what a bargain!
And here he was, on a plane,

Sitting next to love running
Towards him with her arms up,
And that’s what she was shouting.
