Pretending

Claiming true, a bit
Of a stretch, pretty Saro,
Bee bread or royal jelly

For you? Your mother had said
You were a princess,
Not intending compliments,

But you were another thing,
Neither a worker nor queen.
A rare kind of pretender,
Mind of a worker,

Royal sensitivities,
A gift for getting others
To attend to you
Without believing in you.
