The events will not pause in arriving,

Even if the Earth itself stops spinning,

Which likely it won’t, not any time soon.

People will continue to find themselves

Somewhat surprised at what’s happened, somewhat

Prone to tell each other, I told you so.

The balance of lives ending quietly

Or violently will go on shifting,

Back and forth. At each moment, survivors

Somewhere will say to other survivors

Of that moment statements to the effect

That, It can’t go on like this! Then it will.
