The Hunches of the Haunted Hunters

Humans snarl like wolves when we think
Of ourselves as the deer. We shred
The throats of those we think are wolves

Because that’s what the deer do, right?
Wolves and deer don’t get so confused
About who is who, who eats whom,

But we do, and it works for us,
As a whole species, on the whole,
Although it leaves a lot of bones.
