A typical ape, I am
Disagreeably human,
An unholy alliance
Of feeling and creative
Intelligence, a gadget
Composed of other gadgets,
Including bacteria.
Bacteria do engage
In phenomenology
To the extent they affect,
And perhaps even effect
Our minds. They cultivate us,
And so do our languages.
Soul’s what culture manages.
