“The fabulist only wants
To dramatize, but the fraud
Wants to deceive.” That’s one way
We deceive ourselves,
One among many.
We’d like to believe we can
Discern moral distinctions
Between the storyteller
True of heart and the liar
Kicked to the curb, but they’re blurred.
There’s a shadow in all tales:
Truth savors its deceptions.
There’s no shelter without shade,
No faith without corrections.
