Constructed Nature

You can feel the world
Like sheets on your skin
The night you climb in,

Hoping to sleep well,
Having just showered,
Having just remade your bed
In linens freshly laundered.

You can feel the world
Kiss your sleeping face,
Nuzzle the back of your neck

The night you accept
The world can be kind
And kindness a ruse. Rejoice!
But refuse to genuflect.
