The self was terrifying
To itself because it had
Lost purpose but stubbornly,
Bodily, still persisted.
Just before 1909
The truth became popular:
Life is one damn thing after

Another. No one knows who
Said it first, exactly, but
The foolishness at the core
Of experience lay bare.
Not that there were any things,
But that what was kept coming
And damned continuously.
