I tested time, divinity, and death,
Asking each abstraction which could best
Acquit itself of any existence
Other than a given sequence of rules
Spontaneously derived from the fields
Of games minor living things had bounded.
I am the apocalypse I survived.
Of course I believe in ghosts--in ghosts, ghosts,
And holy ghosts. All of culture is ghosts,
Their parallel world prancing and hawking
Within, beside the bodies occupied
With making more and more ghosts all the time.
