Some people write “nakedly
Darwinian” to suggest
Life’s competitive aspects
Should be cloaked in modesty,
As if there were a polite
Form of life that was loving
And kind, not trying too hard
To advance its own interests.
I agree life is loving
And kind as well as leaving,
But I suspect such loving
Kindness of false modesty.
