Gods change into ghosts.
Ghosts change into gods.
Is anything leftover?
Poems are leftovers.
Poems and songs are leftovers,
But not stories. Stories drive
The change of ghosts into gods,
Gods into ghosts, and stories
Are consumed in the process.
Only at the margins, when
The ghost and the god weren’t close,
When the ghost fit too loosely,
Or the god spilled past the ghost,
There might be some poetry,
Soft-voiced, a whisper at most.
