Long black cat in front of me
In my black car crossed the road.
Warren Zevon's dying voice
Accompanied the escape.
The road ran out at one end.
The other end ran through town
After town, mountain-funneled,
Tsunami vulnerable
All the way to the ocean.
I have had a lifelong gift
For ruthless skepticism
Welded to superstition.
Someone take this gift from me.
Next town down will be Phoenix.
