Spruce and Aspen

Typical birds and rodents
To call to their own species,
Typical humans to fish
From the shore, lurk in the woods,
Imagining languages,
Orchestrations meant for us
In species-specific songs,

None of us more foolish than
Any other one of us,
Any other helpless thing
Trying to metabolize
The light. I am as quiet
As I can be, sifting through
The branches of what wants me.
